The last Bastion

The (f)route CARTography project had a great finale at Mallacoota's iconic Bastion Point.

(Emerging) Artist in Residence, Georgia Snowball was fabulouly supported by the Mallacoota Arts Council to create a (f)amily (f)riendly (f)route sea orchard.

Don Ashby and Rachel Mounsey (above) created a space for Georgia to entice passersby into the orchard and add their own touch to the beachscape. And yeah, we had an all day (f)route breakfast on the side.

At 6 we headed to the Muddie for a little locally grown (f)route feast - and the Goats of Mykonos.

*Don't forget:  May 21-26  - we workshop everything about (f)route .
[Be part of the (f)route Hot House sessions at Bungalook Studio, Lakes Entrance - with guest facilitator Karl Khoe from makeshift and plan the next big phase of (f)route.]

Call for photographers

(f)route photo by Rachel Mounsey.  rachelmounseyphotography.com
Taken at Bastion Point, Mallacoota, site of next week's (f)route gathering.
10am. Sunday 29 April.
The (f)route project is working on a 'coffee table' book that will capture the amazing fruit, faces, stories and places that we have encountered on this journey.

'We have taken quite a lot of photos as we've travelled from Bairnsdale, Tubbut, Goongerah, Mallacoota, Cassilis, Buchan, WTree and Bruthen  - but mainly snaps - so we'd love anyone to consider entering work for inclusion in the book . The work must relate to fruit in East Gippsland (actually, or conceptually).

This Bastion Point happening will provide another great opportunity for photographers to capture the essence of East Gippsland and encourage all to come along for a unique shoot.

Georgia Snowball. (f)route artist.

Georgia Snowball is a Sydney-based performance artist who endeavours to push the boundaries of physical  movement and installation art. Her inspiration evolves from the relationship of the human body intertwined with the natural environment, to create spontaneous public performance works.
Grounded in Bhuto dance training, Georgia's unique and energised techniques gather in audience particpation and combine live responses to perform groundbreaking and enlivening works.

On Sunday 29 April the (f)route project will reach its autumnal peak at the iconic Bastion Point beach at Mallacoota.Fruitists are encouraged to join us at 10am at Bastion Point to help create a (f)route orchard on the beach.

Sydney performance artist Georgia Snowball will be orchestrating a series of photo opportunities by weaving herself through the   flotsam/jetsam orchard - created on the most beautiful site on earth.

(f)route will be on-site at Bastion Point till early afternoon, then re-group   at the Mudbrick Pavillion at 6pm for a informal supper of local produce - shared to the sounds of local musos - the  Goats of Mykonos.

(f)route goes to mallacoota

Oh!  the sweet sweet Mallacoota folk have cleared a space on the beach for a (f)route happening.
Everyone's welcome to join us for a 10am start on Sunday 29 April.

We'll make an ephemeral work - 'Coota style. While Georgia makes her moves at this iconic location - Bastion Point.

Rachel will be there to photograph this  (f)route installation/performance as it gets created.
And we're interested in capturing it any way we can. (drawings? filming? words?)

Yeah yeah. it's an old fashioned 'happening' ... (f)route-style.

And then a fruity meal at the muddie in the evening - with music by the Goats of Mykonos.
irresistible.

desserted fruits - a tribute.
CONCEPT:
"It took me awhile to realise I had a fig tree in my backyard. But when I did, man oh man,
the fun I had with those little green & pink bulbs of deliciousness.
It got me thinking. How many other fruit trees are growing in vain, full to the brim with fruity
goodness that no-one harvests, no-one appreciates. Fruit WANTS to be eaten. And stewed,
and preserved, and made into vats of sticky jam.
So, my mission is: forgotten fruit love. Using words, photos & tastebuds. "

Digital Story-telling Workshop in Swifts Creek

(f)route artist-in-residence Samara McIlroy is leading a 2-day Digital Story telling workshop in Swifts Creek on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 this week. (you need to be able to do the 2 whole days, and of course, we'd like to generate some fruit-related stories if possible). You need to contact Annie Richardson TODAY if you want to join in. There's only a couple of spots left but it's a great chance to learn a good story gathering technique. email andrealane@bigpond.com if you want Annie's details.

Here's Samara's original (f)route 'digital story':

A fab gathering in the Cassilis Cemetery for the Swifts Creek (f)route breakfast,
underneath Chaco Kato's Net-Work installation.
An intricate web of connections, all emanating from the solitary (heritage) 5 Crown apple tree.
Many more pix to come.  A great great day.
